You may have noticed that The Stitching Elk ran into a hiccup recently with both the website and the etsy store. The Stitching Elk is currently a side gig for myself and my mom as of right now. With grandiose plans of eventually opening a physical location. This physical location will contain a historical side as well a retail side for the different forms of needlework. With possibly other froms of craftsmanship to show how needlework can be displayed to make a home truly filled with beauty from a simple thread and needle. The website and etsy store was the first step in this direction.
Unfortunately, while pursing this plan. I lost my job which paid for all sorts of neccesities including a mortgage payment, health insurance, medication, and the payments to keep this going. A bunch of bad decisions later and no prospective jobs in line of sight. I lost my housing which prompted so many changes that literally my life has started over once again.
I finally got evrything that I neded lined up to be able to start working on this plan when life hit me again. My mother had a stroke last Thursday (Oct 24) that has weakened her right side, more spefically her right arm. She has told all of her therapists that she has to get that arm working in order to get back to her cross-stiching and so she can go ice fishing with my brother this winter.
Most of the finished projects on my site and etsy store are from her and believe me when I say I have not listed all of them as of yet. Most of the listed patterns are hers that she bought with the intention to stich and never got around to or did stitch but just does not want the pattern anymore. For those of you familiar with The Old Embroidery Central stitch group with Donnett, my mom was nicknamed The Bead Queen because she tended to convert cross stitch projects to Mill Hill beads.
To honor my mon, The Bead Queen, and to promote stroke awareness, The Stiching Elk will be having a sale on any project stitched by my mom or supplies, patterns and kits, bought by my mom. Proceeds will go to her care as well as starting a Stroke Care Center in Logan, Utah for Stroke victims. Families should be able to visit their loved ones without worrying aout how they are going to pay for the trip plus the bills for daily life.
