Welcome to The Stiching Elk blog!
I do not remember when I started to stitch, I just don't. I do remember going to the Mormon Handicraft store in SaltLake City, Utah to get embroidery pieces as well as thread. Back then, early 80's maybe, embroidery projects were very limited. The patterns were printed on the fabric by design companies. You could chose the colors but not the design you wanted; unless, you wanted to dive into the world of transferring designs with chalk or using templates. Not quite my cup of tea or coffee, depending on your preference.
As I grew, I learned other different forms of embroidery including chicken scratch, candlewicking, ribbon embroidery, needlepoint, petite point, plastic canvas, hardanger, and cross-stitch. I have mastered most of these plus added a few new ones to my list. In fact, I and a few friends have gotten into arguements over my stitching with strangers. The strangers believe that my finished projects are paintings or posters. Or, that my embroidery was machine stitched instead of hand stitched. I absolutely love the look of shock and awe on their faces when they realize the truth. Even when they have to climb on couches to see the stitches.
I have also received various ribbons from The Cache County Fair and The Eastern Idaho State Fair mainly First Place and Best in Show. Why the trip down memory lane? I want my customers to understand that I have 38+ years of experience that includes a variety of textiles, different designers, speicalty threads, specialty stitches, beads, buttons, charms, sequins, and etc. As well as a craft library that kinda scares my kids and frustrated 2 husbands. I won't get into the plain old reading books library which is equally as scary.
My prices reflect all of the above but not the love or joy that goes into each piece I stitch. There is no price on either of those things. I hope you enjoy my blog and store as I share a bit of the love and joy I have found in needlework.
