What Labor Day means to me

We are getting ready to celebrate Labor Day in the United States of America. We will be going on vacation, We will be buyings things at sale events around the nation. We will be grilling, drinking, camping, fishing, or whatever we all do during the holidays. However, very few of us will stop and ask why we celebrate Labor Day.

I was wondering about that very fact while I was setting up a Labor Day sale for my Etsy store. I did some very basic research about Labor Day and the meanng behind it. Bascially, it's a day to celebrate workers at all levels who have worked or are working to keep America going. It is part of our past history, including the ugly parts of child labor, and it is our present history.

It is a time to reflect on what our ancestors had to do to survive as well as to create The United States of America. It's about the Great Depression when economy was at its lowest in our country as well as the world. It's about the women who worked during wars to keep the economy moving at home while fathers, sons, and brothers were defending basic human rights on foreign soil.

It is about the individuals who come together to design and produce everything that I have in my life. From basic neccesties, like food, to luxury items that I want, a vacation on a beach. Everything I have in my life has been designed by someone else as well as produced by someone else.

I want to thank you, whoever you are, for waking up every day and going to work to make my life easier and better. You are amazing, you are awesome, and I would not have the life I live without you.
